IBBFA Certification Examination
The exam is the credential. Three pathways — one standard. Every IBBFA-certified instructor passes the same examination, regardless of how they prepare.
The IBBFA Examination Certifies the Foundation Standard for Barre Instruction
The barre industry has two layers of credentials. Method certifications (ABT, Barre Above, Barre Intensity, Pure Barre, Bootybarre, Bar Method) teach a specific style of barre — branded systems with their own choreography and identity. The IBBFA examination certifies a different thing: your competence to teach barre safely to a documented professional standard, regardless of which method you teach.
That's why the IBBFA credential is recognized by 7 major fitness organizations for continuing education credits, why employers verify it in real time at ibbfa.org/verify, and why method-trained instructors add the IBBFA credential to their existing training. Method certification + IBBFA foundation credential is the standard combination for career-track barre instructors.
The IBBFA Certification Examination is the foundation-credential assessment for barre fitness instructors worldwide, administered by the International Ballet Barre Fitness Association (EST. 2008). The exam evaluates competency across anatomy, barre technique, class design, cueing, safety, and scope of practice — aligned with IBBFA's published competency framework. Candidates may prepare through the IBBFA CBI Course, independent study, or an IBBFA Recognized Preparation Program. All pathways lead to the same IBBFA credential, verified through the public credential registry. The CBI is approved for continuing education credits by ACE (3.5), NASM (1.9), AFAA (28), ISSA (35), CanFitPro (15), NPCP (35), and AUSactive (8) — more than any other barre-specific credential we're aware of.
