About the Program

Method-specific training, IBBFA-recognized standards

Sōma Barré is a barre education brand based in Spain, dedicated to developing instructors through a more conscious, precise, and pedagogically sound approach to teaching. The professional experience behind the program includes training more than 50 instructors from different countries, working with teams at leading barre studios across Europe, and collaborating with international fitness professionals.

At Sōma Barré, teaching methodology is treated as being just as important as technical, anatomical, and biomechanical knowledge. The program's stated aim is a generation of instructors who teach through a deep understanding of the body, safe movement, and purposeful practice, without losing the strength, rhythm, elegance, and sophistication that define barre.

As an IBBFA Recognized Program, Sōma Barré keeps its own brand, language of instruction, and tuition. IBBFA provides the credentialing standard, the graduate exam pathway, and the public verification layer that lets Sōma Barré graduates demonstrate their training to studios and students anywhere in the world.

Philosophy

Understanding before repetition

Sōma Barré holds that teaching barre is an art in which anatomical precision, rhythm, and pedagogical sensitivity come together. Movement is taught through understanding rather than automatic repetition, so instructors are prepared to create and lead safe, rigorous movement experiences rather than to memorize sequences.

A skilled instructor does more than guide exercises. They observe, adapt, communicate, support, and educate. Effective teaching requires an understanding of the body alongside an awareness of how students learn, how they process cues, and what they need in order to feel safe and progress in their practice.

Curriculum Framework

Three pillars

01

Biomechanics and alignment

Anatomical understanding applied to the classroom to support safe practice, make informed corrections, and adapt movement to each student's individual body.

02

Pedagogy and cueing

Advanced verbal communication, anticipation, and strategic musicality techniques for leading classes that are fluid, clear, motivating, and inclusive.

03

Presence and intention

Development of leadership in the studio, active observation, and mind-body connection, while maintaining the strength, elegance, and distinctive identity of barre.

How Recognition Works

The foundation beneath the method

IBBFA is the foundation credential for barre instruction, certifying the safety, biomechanics, and scope-of-practice knowledge every barre instructor needs, regardless of method or lineage.

Recognition does not replace individual credentialing. Sōma Barré graduates complete the program's training, then earn the IBBFA Certified Barre Instructor (CBI) credential by passing the IBBFA examination, the same standard that applies to every barre instructor in any method. This mirrors how recognized programs prepare candidates for the credential in other fields: the program teaches, and the credentialing body certifies.

Graduate Pathway

From Sōma Barré graduate to IBBFA Certified

The IBBFA exam pathway for graduates

Because Sōma Barré is a Recognized Program, its graduates take the IBBFA examination at the recognized-program rate of $199 rather than the $299 standalone fee. Graduates who pass earn the CBI credential and appear in the public IBBFA directory, where studios and students can verify their standing.

About the Founder

Inés Morán Fernández

Sōma Barré was founded in 2026 by Inés Morán Fernández. Inés has more than seven years of teaching experience in the barre method and has also trained in classical dance, Pilates, tap, and other movement disciplines.

She has been educating future instructors since 2021 and has trained more than 50 professionals of different nationalities. Her background includes team leadership and studio management, and she currently serves as Head Coach at Casa Barré, one of Europe's leading barre studios.

"My purpose with Sōma Barré is to bring the pedagogical rigor that was missing from the industry: teaching instructors how to read bodies in the studio, communicate with technical clarity, and build a sustainable practice over time.

I would have loved to find all the foundations I needed at the beginning of my career in a single training program. Teaching means understanding what happens in the instructor's mind, but also understanding what students experience so that we can create the best possible experience for them."
