IBBFA Studio Approval & Certification

Two designation levels recognize studios that invest in their instructors' professional credentials — from a single expert presence to a fully certified teaching staff.

IBBFA Studio Approval is earned — not purchased. A studio qualifies by having an active IBBFA Principal or Master Instructor on staff, or by ensuring all barre instructors on staff hold active CBI credentials or higher. Approved and Certified studios are listed in the IBBFA directory, display the corresponding designation badge, and gain access to the credential verification tool for streamlined hiring. IBBFA course programs are approved for continuing education credits by ACE (3.5), NASM (1.9), AFAA (28), ISSA (35), CanFitPro (15), NPCP (35), and AUSactive (8).

Two Levels of Studio Designation

Studio designations reflect the depth of credential investment at your facility. Both levels are awarded at no charge to qualifying studios.

IBBFA Approved Studio

Approved Studio

A $199/year value — included at no charge

Your studio employs an active IBBFA Principal Instructor. Their credential is the approval mechanism — the designation travels with the instructor and signals to clients that expert-level oversight is present at your facility.

How to Qualify
Principal Instructor on Staff Have one active IBBFA Principal Instructor teaching at your studio. The approval is included with their credential and transfers if they move locations.
Portable — tied to the instructor's active credential
IBBFA Certified Studio

Certified Studio

A $299/year value — included at no charge

The highest studio designation IBBFA awards. Certified status signals to clients that professional standards are embedded across your entire teaching staff — not just one instructor.

Two Ways to Qualify
Master Instructor on Staff Have one active IBBFA Master Instructor teaching at your studio. Masters hold the highest individual credential IBBFA awards and are certified to train and evaluate other instructors.
Portable — tied to the Master Instructor's active credential
All Instructors Certified Every barre instructor teaching at your facility holds an active IBBFA CBI credential or higher. Studio-owned — not tied to any individual instructor.
Studio-owned — remains as long as staff credentials are maintained

Benefits of Studio Approval

What IBBFA studio designation means for your business, your clients, and your staff.

Client Confidence

The IBBFA studio badge tells clients that instructors at your facility hold verified, current credentials with scope-of-practice training — a meaningful differentiator in a crowded market.

Reduced Liability

Instructors with scope-of-practice training know when to refer, when to modify, and when a student needs medical clearance. That protects your studio from contraindication and liability exposure.

Streamlined Hiring

Access the IBBFA instructor directory to recruit, and use the verification tool to confirm any credential instantly — no calls, no guesswork.

Directory Listing

Approved and Certified studios appear in the IBBFA public directory — visible to prospective clients searching for quality-assured studios in their area.

Consistent Quality

IBBFA's credential hierarchy — CBI, Specialty, Principal, Master — gives you clear standards for every role. CBI for group classes; Specialty credentials for prenatal or high-energy barre formats; Principal for lead instructors.

Group Enrollment Pricing

Studios certifying multiple instructors through BarreCertification.com receive group enrollment pricing — making full-staff certification more cost-effective.

Qualification Requirements

Studio approval is earned through credential investment — not purchased. Choose the pathway that matches your studio's structure. All designations are awarded at no charge to qualifying studios.

IBBFA Approved Studio

Principal Instructor Pathway

For studios with an IBBFA Principal Instructor on teaching staff

  • One active IBBFA Principal Instructor teaching barre classes at the facility
  • Principal's credential status shows "Active" in the IBBFA registry
  • Studio displays the IBBFA Approved Studio badge on-site and on website
  • Studio notifies IBBFA if the Principal Instructor departs
Portable designation. Approval is tied to the Principal Instructor's active credential. If they leave, the studio enters a 90-day transition period to qualify through another pathway.
IBBFA Certified Studio

Master Instructor Pathway

For studios with an IBBFA Master Instructor on teaching staff

  • One active IBBFA Master Instructor teaching barre classes at the facility
  • Master's credential status shows "Active" in the IBBFA registry
  • Studio displays the IBBFA Certified Studio badge on-site and on website
  • Studio notifies IBBFA if the Master Instructor departs
Portable designation. A Master Instructor's credential includes the authority to train and evaluate other instructors — the highest quality guarantee IBBFA can extend to a facility. Certification travels with the Master.
IBBFA Certified Studio

Full-Staff Pathway

For studios that certify their entire barre teaching staff

  • All barre instructors on staff hold an active IBBFA CBI credential or higher
  • All credentials show "Active" status in the IBBFA registry
  • Annual credential audit — studio verifies staff credentials each year
  • Studio displays the IBBFA Certified Studio badge on-site and on website
  • Scope-of-practice compliance — studio policies support instructors' referral protocols
Studio-owned designation. Certified status belongs to the studio as long as all barre instructor credentials remain active. Not tied to any one individual.

Studio Approval FAQ

What is the difference between Approved and Certified?
IBBFA Approved Studio status is earned when a studio employs an active IBBFA Principal Instructor. IBBFA Certified Studio is the higher designation — earned either when a studio employs an active Master Instructor, or when every barre instructor on staff holds an active IBBFA CBI credential or higher. Certified status signals the deepest level of credential investment across the facility.
Is there a fee for studio approval?
No. IBBFA studio approval is awarded at no charge to qualifying studios. Approved Studio designation ($199/year value) is included with an active Principal Instructor's credential. Certified Studio designation ($299/year value) is included when a Master Instructor is on staff, or when all barre instructors hold active IBBFA credentials. There is no standalone purchase option for studio approval.
What happens if our Principal Instructor leaves?
The studio enters a 90-day transition period. During that time, the studio can hire a new Principal Instructor to maintain Approved status, pursue a Master Instructor hire to upgrade to Certified, or certify all remaining barre instructors at the CBI level to earn Certified status through the full-staff pathway. The designation lapses if the studio does not qualify through one of these pathways within 90 days.
What if one of our instructors' credentials lapses?
For the full-staff pathway to Certified Studio, all barre instructor credentials must remain Active. Studios should monitor instructor status through the verification tool. If an instructor's credential lapses, they can reactivate via the $99/year IBBFA Annual Registry. Accreditation is reviewed annually.
Can a Principal Instructor take their studio approval to a new studio?
Yes — this is by design. Principal and Master Instructor credentials include a portable studio listing. When an instructor moves to a new studio, they can update their listed studio in the IBBFA registry and the approval transfers with them. The previous studio enters the 90-day transition period described above.
Where are Approved Studios listed vs. Certified Studios?
All IBBFA-affiliated studios — both Approved and Certified — are listed in the public barre.directory/studios directory. IBBFA Certified Studios are additionally featured here on ibbfa.org/studios/, reflecting the higher level of credential investment at those facilities.
Can multi-location studios apply?
Yes. Each location is evaluated independently. Each location must qualify through one of the three pathways — a Principal or Master Instructor on staff at that location, or all barre instructors at that location holding active CBI credentials. Contact us for multi-location guidance.
